TRT in Houston without the waiting room

Houston is a big, spread-out city. A specialist visit can mean an hour on I-10, the Southwest Freeway or I-45 each way. We built our service around that reality. You tell us what you're noticing, get your blood drawn at a lab close to home or work, and go over the results with a clinician by video.

We focus on one thing: a careful, evidence-based answer to the question "Is low testosterone the reason I feel this way?" Sometimes the answer is yes and testosterone replacement therapy makes sense. Sometimes it's a sleep problem, a thyroid issue or a medication side effect. Either way, you leave with a clear plan.

Signs of low testosterone in Houston men

The symptoms of low testosterone overlap with many other conditions, which is why testing matters. According to the Mayo Clinic, possible signs include:

  • Sexual changes: lower sex drive, fewer spontaneous erections, or fertility problems.
  • Physical changes: more body fat, less muscle and strength, lower bone density, and low energy.
  • Mood and focus: less motivation, low mood, or trouble concentrating.

Sleep apnea, thyroid disease, diabetes, depression and some medications can cause the same symptoms, and some of them can also lower testosterone. A careful evaluation checks for those causes before anyone talks about a prescription.

How TRT Houston works, step by step

1. Online intake

A short health questionnaire about symptoms, history, medications and goals. It takes minutes, from anywhere in Houston.

2. Local lab draw

We send a lab order to a Quest or Labcorp location near you. Testosterone is usually drawn in the morning, when levels peak.

3. Video visit

A Texas-licensed clinician reviews your results with you, explains what they mean, and recommends a plan, which may or may not include TRT.

4. Monitoring

If you start therapy, follow-up labs and check-ins are scheduled to keep treatment safe and on track.

Testosterone replacement therapy: what the evidence says

Testosterone replacement therapy is an established treatment for men with hypogonadism, meaning consistent symptoms plus testosterone levels confirmed low on repeat testing. The Endocrine Society's clinical practice guideline recommends making the diagnosis only after both are confirmed. It also recommends against routinely treating men simply because their levels have declined with age.

For men who qualify, treatment may improve sexual function and some quality-of-life measures. An evidence review behind the American College of Physicians guideline found little to no benefit for energy, physical function or cognition in older men without a clear medical cause. That's why we set honest expectations up front.

On safety, the large TRAVERSE trial (2023) found that testosterone therapy was not inferior to placebo for major cardiovascular events in men with hypogonadism and elevated cardiovascular risk. Higher rates of some events, including atrial fibrillation, were reported. TRT can also raise red blood cell counts, worsen untreated sleep apnea, and suppress sperm production. Monitoring is part of every plan for exactly these reasons.

Telehealth TRT and Texas rules

Texas Occupations Code Chapter 111 allows a licensed practitioner to establish a practitioner-patient relationship through telemedicine, as long as the visit meets the same standard of care as an in-person one. Physicians who treat Texas patients are overseen by the Texas Medical Board.

Testosterone is a Schedule III controlled substance under federal law. The DEA and HHS have extended telemedicine prescribing flexibilities through December 31, 2026 while permanent rules are finalized. Those rules may change. Our clinicians follow the federal and Texas requirements in effect at the time of your visit, and that can include an in-person evaluation.

This is general information, not legal or medical advice. Eligibility is decided by the treating clinician.

TRT Houston questions, answered

Do I need to visit a clinic in Houston to start TRT?

Usually not. With TRT Houston, most men start with an online intake and a video visit, then get labs drawn at a nearby Quest or Labcorp location. Testosterone is a federally controlled substance. Federal telemedicine flexibilities for controlled-substance prescribing currently run through December 31, 2026, and your clinician will tell you if an in-person evaluation is required under the rules in effect at the time.

Can men in Katy, Sugar Land, The Woodlands or Pearland use TRT Houston?

Yes. We serve men who are physically located in Texas at the time of their visit. That includes Harris, Fort Bend, Montgomery, Brazoria and Waller counties. Labs are drawn at a service center near you.

What labs are checked before testosterone replacement therapy?

Guidelines from the Endocrine Society and the American Urological Association call for at least two early-morning total testosterone measurements. Clinicians commonly add free testosterone, LH, a complete blood count (hematocrit), PSA when appropriate for your age, and other markers based on your history. Your clinician decides the exact panel.

What testosterone level counts as low?

The AUA guideline uses a total testosterone below 300 ng/dL as a reasonable cutoff to support a diagnosis, and only when symptoms are present and the low result is confirmed on repeat testing. A number alone does not decide treatment.

Is TRT right for every man with low energy?

No. Fatigue, low libido and weight gain have many causes, including sleep apnea, thyroid disease, diabetes, depression and medication side effects. A good evaluation looks for those first. Testosterone replacement therapy is appropriate only when symptoms and repeated labs both support a diagnosis.

Does TRT affect fertility?

It can. External testosterone can suppress sperm production. If you hope to have children, tell your clinician before starting, because other approaches may be more appropriate.

How much does TRT cost in Houston, and does insurance cover it?

Pricing is shared with you after your initial consult, once a clinician knows which labs and treatment, if any, fit your situation. Coverage depends on your plan, so ask about insurance and HSA/FSA options during your consult.

How often will I need follow-up labs on TRT?

Guidelines recommend checking testosterone and hematocrit a few months after starting and then regularly. Most men are on a schedule of roughly every 6 to 12 months once stable, with PSA monitoring when appropriate. We schedule these with you so you never have to wonder what's next.
